We’re proud to have been nominated and shortlisted for a Workingmums 2018 Top Employer Award. The organisers are looking for a company that can demonstrate a real commitment to work life balance practices which specifically help working parents, such as flexible working, support on return to work from maternity leave and career development for women.
Balancing work and family life can be tricky to say the least and very often it can feel like there are just too many balls to keep in the air. Historically, women’s careers have often been the casualty of a rigid nine-to-five, office-centric world. Many women end up forgoing a return to work because with only full-time roles available the balance just isn’t right for them. It’s not only a shame for the women and their families but for the many companies who lose out on some amazingly skilled talent.
BetterPoints is different – we understand that for many people (and not just mums) full time, nine-to-five in an office isn’t the best way to work. We have an amazing team with an abundance of skills to contribute to the organisation and we value that highly. We want to make it work for all of us – staff, organisation and clients. About half of us work part-time and all our hours have some flexibility. We all work from home and we’re based around the country so wherever a client is, at least one of us will be close by. We’re not isolated though – thanks to a range of software solutions we communicate and manage our workload online – giving the additional benefit of making us effectively paperless.
It’s not all about mums, dads benefit too: ten of our 15-strong UK team have young children and can fit work around their schedules and needs as well as the needs of the business. Our ethos also benefits those with elderly parents or other commitments. The way we work means we can recruit the very best people and not simply those who can get to a physical office by a specified time.
We believe working this way works. It’s evidenced in the fact that our clients regularly tell us that we’re the most committed, responsive company they’ve worked with – and our team is blossoming. We’re looking forward to the Top Employer Awards in November and we’re delighted that our commitment to a positive, flexible work-life balance has been recognised.
