Over half a million car journeys cut in Brighton & Hove
Brighton & Hove City Council’s Move for Change campaign is designed to move local residents and workers away from a reliance on private motor vehicles.
In year two (2022), participants recorded over a million sustainable journeys. More than 620,000 of these were found to have replaced a single-occupancy car journey.
Those journeys saved approximately 392 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
Nearly 80 per cent of participants said they were more likely to walk or cycle in future.
The campaign complements the council’s strategies to create a safe and accessible sustainable transport network and to reach net zero by 2030.
The campaign was broadened in 2022 to encourage more physical activity, with rewards for swimming, gym sessions and exercise classes.
