Like many local authorities, Buckinghamshire Council was trying to reduce local health inequalities and encourage people to take responsibility for their health and wellbeing.

So the council put out a tender for a ‘Digital Behaviour Change Health Rewards Programme’ and BetterPoints responded with BetterPoints Bucks.

Key objectives

  • Inactive residents become more active.
  • Better awareness, take-up and outcomes of smoking, weight management, and wellbeing services.
  • Fewer single-occupancy car journeys.

Key outcomes

  • 194 average weekly minutes of physical activity among people inactive at baseline.
  • 31% participation from more deprived wards.
  • 6,251 assessed journeys (54%) replaced a car.

Return on Investment

Buckinghamshire Council calculated the local authority had saved £4 for every £1 it spent on BetterPoints Bucks.
