World Kindness Day 2025

World Kindness Day 2025

hands in shape of a heart

The most powerful gestures are free.

At BetterPoints, our mission is to enhance lives by promoting positive behavioural change. While we’re passionate about encouraging physical activity and sustainable transport choices, we also believe in the power of kindness to strengthen communities and improve wellbeing.

World Kindness Day, celebrated today, on 13th November, provides the perfect opportunity to recognise and celebrate the everyday heroes in our communities who go above and beyond to help others.

Earlier this year, we invited our BetterPoints users to share their random acts of kindness, and once again, we were overwhelmed by the response.

The Power of Community Action

“Personally, I find community-driven initiatives like this incredibly encouraging. As individuals, we cannot single-handedly address issues such as climate change, and councils cannot simply dictate change. However, communities have the power to inspire and engage, creating a groundswell of activity that leads to lasting behavioural change.

When we come together to support one another, we create something far greater than the sum of our individual actions. Each small act of kindness creates ripples that extend far beyond the initial gesture”

Stories That Inspire Us

We were truly moved by the stories our users shared on Random Acts of Kindness Day.

Here are two that particularly stood out:

  1. “Through Olio, where I serve as a Food Waste Hero, I’ve been able to rescue surplus food and share it with those who need it most. It’s a simple yet powerful way to give back. The act of collecting food that would otherwise be wasted and passing it on to grateful neighbours, families, or individuals struggling to make ends meet fills me with a deep sense of purpose. The smiles, the heartfelt “thank yous,” and the knowledge that I’m making even a small difference – these moments stay with me.”
  1. “While walking through Burgess Park, I came across an elderly person searching for their lost dog, which had been frightened off by an aggressive dog. I asked them to stay seated in case their dog returned, while I searched the park. After a lengthy search, I spotted a dog matching the description near the café, though it was quite skittish. I ran back to get the owner, and we walked together to find the dog. The two were joyfully reunited with hugs, paws, and kisses. After sitting together for a while, I walked with them toward Walworth Road before we parted ways. The experience reminded me that whenever I’m able to help someone, I should.”

Kindness: The Gift That Keeps on Giving

In a world that often feels overshadowed by negative headlines, these user stories shine through. Whether it’s saving food waste or finding lost dogs, they remind us that kindness isn’t just about grand gestures – it’s about the small, everyday actions that make someone’s day a little brighter.

At BetterPoints, we’re committed to fostering communities where people support one another and work together towards common goals. World Kindness Day is a lovely reminder that when we choose kindness, we create stronger, more connected communities where everyone can thrive.

Let’s keep celebrating, sharing, and spreading this amazing spirit. Together, we truly can make the world a much brighter, happier place.
