BetterPoints Turns 15!

BetterPoints Turns 15!

BetterPoints Turns 15

25 August 2010 – 25 August 2025

Fifteen years ago, we started BetterPoints with a simple idea: to use technology to help
people make better choices for their health and the planet.

Today, BetterPoints has grown into a purpose-led behaviour change company that helps
people travel greener, live healthier, and help the climate. We’re B Corp certified and work
with cities, companies, and universities globally.

And – we are more relevant than ever….

The UK Government’s recently published NHS Fit for the Future: 10-Year Health Plan
highlights the urgent need for preventive health programmes that help people stay well,
reduce long-term illness, and ease pressure on health services. That is exactly what
BetterPoints has been doing for 15 years: rewarding and motivating people, through the
BetterPoints app, to walk, cycle, wheel, use public transport and take direct actions that
improve their health and the planet.

Our platform already supports key priorities in the plan, from reducing inactivity and tackling
obesity, to encouraging smoking cessation and improving mental wellbeing. By combining
behaviour change science with technology, BetterPoints delivers the kind of large-scale,
inclusive, and measurable preventive health interventions that the NHS and local authorities
are now calling for.

A Word from Our Founders

Stephen & Prudence Magee:

“When we started BetterPoints, our vision was to create a better world – a world in which people are more aware of the impact of their actions on the planet. We wanted to create a better way for people to move, to create healthy lives and a healthier planet by reducing CO2. In 2010 this message was, perhaps, a little ahead of its time. Now, though, we are delighted to know that we have changed the way that hundreds of thousands of people move and view their health. We salute all those, around the world, who have made this journey so worthwhile”

Remembering Dan Gipple

Dan Gipple started BetterPoints in 2010 with Stephen and Prudence. Sadly, Dan passed
away on 23 August 2023 after a battle with cancer.

Dan believed in people and their potential to do good. He created BetterPoints to reward
positive behaviour and encourage charity. Everyone who knew Dan remembers his
incredible enthusiasm for life, his kindness, generosity, and his extraordinary powers of
oratory.

Dan’s energy lives on in everything we do.

Looking Ahead

Richard Kirk, CEO:

“The story behind BetterPoints is one of belief – absolute faith in creating a better world. The journey has been tough. In the last 5 years we have enjoyed very real, sustainable, growth. The market our Founders envisaged has arrived!

Today, there is a global hunger to improve our world. BetterPoints is doing this by combining behaviour change science with advanced technology and presenting this to users with participant-facing communications and our award-winning app. We are absolutely passionate about changing the way that people move to reduce CO2, improving health and developing new habits for life. We will strive to continue, as a purpose-led business, to make a real difference and make positive change rewarding…in every way.

This amazing journey has been made possible by the enormous support from our Founders, our incredibly talented team – past and present – partners and communities”
