We’re partnering with Sustrans to get workplaces more active in Somerset
We recently kicked off a new BetterPoints programme in Bridgwater, in partnership with Sustrans. We’re focusing on engaging workplaces across the town and encouraging them to get more active with a whole range of activities and rewards.
Businesses who get involved will be offered their own 8-week Active Steps programme. Active Steps is a tried and tested programme run by Sustrans which aims to improve health and wellbeing through active travel – cycling and walking.
The beauty of BetterPoints and Sustrans joining forces is that participants get the best of both worlds – to take part in Active Steps whilst being rewarded with BetterPoints! Alongside our in-app motivational messaging, prize draws and gamification features there will be on the ground group and individual activities offered, making the whole thing a social and fun experience for everyone.
The support and advice offered throughout the programme includes optional pre and post programme health checks, bike safety checks, pedometer loans, regular led walks and rides, cycle confidence and skills training, bike maintenance training and travel planning.
Our experience of running these kinds of complementary activities alongside a BetterPoints programme is extremely positive – the award-winning BikeSmart Reading programme is one example. The approach addresses many of the common barriers to walking and cycling, enabling more people to take part.
For several months we’ve been working in Bridgwater in the West Country to encourage residents to be more active. Participants have been earning BetterPoints for walking, cycling, scooting and running. They can then exchange their BetterPoints for high street and online vouchers or donate them to charity. The programme is funded by Somerset County Council and we’re working in partnership with SYSTRA, Go Travel Solutions, Sustrans and Living Streets.
