Ebbsfleet Garden City Healthy New Town

Get Active in Ebbsfleet is a complex behaviour change intervention that encourages local people to be more active, visit local parks and connect with others.

A 12-month pilot programme was commissioned in 2018 by Ebbsfleet Development Corporation. It was so successful, it has been re-commissioned each year since. It moved into its fourth year in 2021.

Just three weeks into the pilot, 76% of people classed as ‘inactive’ by Public Health England (that is, those who undertook less than 30 minutes of activity per week) had already progressed into the ‘insufficiently active’ or ‘active’ categories.

Pop-up lanes make cyclists feel safer in Leicester

BetterPoints is working with Leicester City and Leicestershire County councils to encourage the use of their new pop-up infrastructure and measure its impact. We geofenced the pop-up lanes to learn which segments of the lanes are being used – to within a few metres – as well as when, and how often, people are using them.

This use of geospatial data allows us to present contextual content or ecological momentary assessments (EMAs), providing invaluable feedback to the cyclists and to the councils.

Cyclists tell us the new lanes make them feel safer and more confident to use the roads.

22,000 people encouraged to travel sustainably in Bologna

In 2017 and 2018, the BetterPoints platform powered the six-month Bella Mossa programmes that encouraged fewer single-occupancy car journeys in the Italian city of Bologna.

Citizen-led Sustainable Travel in Brazil

The Vai De Zica campaign, powered by BetterPoints, was a six-week pilot project designed by young Joinville citizens to re- create the cycling movement in their city and to raise awareness of sustainable travel as well as air quality and environmental issues.

Cutting car use in Royal Leamington Spa

Choose How You Move Leamington Spa was a four-month pilot programme for Warwick District Council to encourage local people to use their ‘Park and Stride’ car parks and walk into town, instead of parking in the town centre. Local charities benefited from donations and local businesses sponsored special offers. The programme exceeded its target by 55%.

High levels of behaviour change in Sutton

The London Borough of Sutton worked with BetterPoints to reward local people for making sustainable transport choices and inform them about local air quality issues.

Thousands of car journeys were replaced by active or sustainable modes of transport and around 12,000 kg of CO2 were saved.
