Winter Challenge Update – it’s almost Spring!
The sun is starting to shine a little more often and there are some signs of life bursting through the soil! This must mean that spring is on the horizon and the long winter days are on their way out. There’s just over a week left in our 2018-19 Winter Challenge so it’s the perfect time to share an update.
A quick recap: we know winter can be a challenging time to be active, so our winter challenge is designed to help with some extra motivation! The challenge started on 1 December 2018 runs until 28 February 2019. As part of the challenge we’re supporting the charity Shelter.
We challenged everyone in our National Rewards programme to opt into the challenge and help us virtually travel around the earth – on two feet or two wheels! The Earth’s circumference is roughly 25,000 miles. Every time the challenge participants collectively travel 25,000 miles, we will donate £25 – the cash value of one point for each mile – to Shelter. Challenge participants will also earn one BetterTicket for each mile they run, walk or cycle during the challenge. Tickets are entered into our weekly prize draw for 25 lots of 5,000 BetterPoints.
Almost 3,000 people have now joined the challenge! Together they have travelled almost 190,000 miles by foot or bike. That’s the equivalent of over 7 times around the earth! Participants have burned almost 15 million calories and potentially saved 72,000kg of CO2.
Even though the January days of everyone keenly working off the festive excesses have passed, BetterPoints is helping app users to stay active. Of those who have joined the challenge, two thirds have tracked activities in the past week.
With just over a week to go there’s still time to join, to clock up some mileage and earn some BetterPoints for Shelter and some BetterTickets for yourself. To keep things fresh we’ll be launching a new challenge soon – keep your eyes peeled for more information.
The prize draws and collective earning features employed in this year’s Winter Challenge are ‘gamification features’. These are designed to engage and motivate app users to get active and stay active in order to change behaviour – we have several different gamification features which can be applied to interventions. It’s one of the many things that makes our clients choose BetterPoints.
