Milton Keynes City Council’s Get Around Rewards pilot attracted high levels of engagement and achieved measurable modal shift.
Residents and workers in Milton Keynes were given incentives and rewards for walking, wheeling, cycling, taking public transport and using the MK Connect demand-responsive transport service.
BetterPoints for towns and cities
The eight-month pilot programme in 2022 initiated more than 190,000 active or otherwise sustainable journeys, 62 per cent of which replaced a car journey, and prevented an estimated 47,204 kg of CO2 emissions.
Campaigns, rewards and prize draws ensured over 60 per cent month-on-month engagement.
The council has commissioned a second, seven-month, programme for 2023.
In 2022:
- 190,000+ active or sustainable journeys
- 66% month-on-month engagement
- 62% of trips replaced a car journey
- 47,204 kg estimated CO2 emissions avoided.
