Renfrewshire Council shifted 200k car journeys to sustainable transport 

Renfrewshire Council’s Not Far? Leave the Car campaign rewards local people for journeys that are active or otherwise sustainable. 

Between March 2022 and April 2023, more than 300,000 sustainable journeys were recorded. Over 70 per cent of those replaced a journey that would otherwise have been made by someone in a car on their own. 

This shows a huge shift in behaviour among car drivers during the campaign. 

The journeys saved approximately 79 tonnes of CO2 emissions, a big boost to the council’s ambition to achieve net zero by 2030. 

A fifth of rewards for travelling more sustainably were spent at local shops or donated to local charities.
