Brighton & Hove renews its active travel behaviour change programme for a second year

We are thrilled to be working with Brighton & Hove City Council for a second year, encouraging and rewarding more active and sustainable travel in the area.

Over 11 months in 2021, the Move for Change programme reached nearly 12 per cent more people than its initial target, and commanded a high average engagement rate of 62 per cent.

Participants earn one BetterPoint a minute, up to 60 minutes per day, for ditching the car in Brighton & Hove, which they can spend on vouchers or donate to charity, including five specially chosen local charities that the council is promoting.

They also have the chance to win large numbers of BetterPoints every week when they travel by bus or train, and by sharing their active travel stories in the regular Ditch the Car Star survey.

The programme has been a big hit locally, with partnerships across local businesses promoting the scheme and offering rewards of their own, such as bicycle rentals.

“Brighton & Hove City Council are delighted by the high levels of engagement with the BetterPoints Move for Change campaign,” said Dan Bianco, Transport Planner at Brighton & Hove City Council.

“We feel that there is a real and tangible shift in attitudes towards traveling more actively and sustainably.”

“Having recently extended our contract with BetterPoints for another year, BHCC hope even more people will change the way they travel, that will benefit them and the city.”
