Santander Cycles and Rutland Cycling gear-up for new workplace travel challenge in Leicestershire
More than 80 businesses in Leicestershire are already represented in a month-long challenge in March to reduce car use, with top prizes on offer from Santander Cycles and Rutland Cycling.
First prize is an electric bicycle worth £1,000, provided by Rutland Cycling. Second prize is a Fitbit with £400-worth of outdoor walking gear.
Santander Cycles are giving away monthly subscriptions and £5 vouchers for their bike hire in Leicester.
Lots of other prizes are up for grabs too, including Amazon vouchers and gift cards for local shops, restaurants and leisure activities.
The Let’s Go challenge is set jointly by Leicester City Council and Leicestershire County Council. It aims to engage businesses across Leicester and the wider county with the councils’ sustainable transport agenda.
“We’re delighted that Betterpoints has come up with a new way to travel actively and sustainably”, said Ozzy O Shea, cabinet member for highways and transport.
“The Let’s Go challenge, along with their new workplace champions, will help us all become more active, helping ourselves and the environment too.”
The challenge marks the end of year four of Choose How You Move, the councils’ highly successful joint programme of BetterPoints incentives for encouraging people out of their cars.
Let’s Go runs from 1 to 31 March, but a lot of work had already gone into recruiting workplace champions from Choose How You Move participants. As a result, the number of workplaces represented had already exceeded the councils’ initial target, even before it launched.
