“I’ve swapped many of my normal car journeys for walking and cycling instead”

Jigna works for Leicester City Council and joined their recent Let’s Go workplace challenge. “Because of BetterPoints and the encouragement and incentives offered, I started walking a lot and resumed cycling”, she says.

In March, more than 80 workplaces in Leicester & Leicestershire competed to see who could get the most staff to leave their cars at home.

Anyone who travelled to work by walking, wheeling, riding or using public transport, stood the chance to win prizes and helped to push their team up the leaderboard. More than 550 people took up the challenge.

Together, they clocked up more than 52,000 miles from over 30,000 trips. It’s estimated that these active and sustainable journeys could have saved up to 11,800 kg of CO2 emissions and burned around 3.7 million calories.

“It’s really made me rethink my car use”, says Jigna. “I’ve swapped many of my normal car journeys for walking and cycling instead. With rising fuel costs I’m filling up my car less and saving money, so it’s a win-win for me!”

But the benefits don’t stop there: “The rewards and incentives mean I’ve been able to get money off my food shopping,” says Jigna, “and I’ve also been able to treat myself with other vouchers in the app too”.

Her change in behaviour has also been good for her health: “This has had positive effects on my health and mindfulness – I can really see the health benefits”, she says.
