European Mobility Week 2019
European Mobility Week 2019 kicked off on Monday 16 September. Since 2002, the campaign has sought to improve public health and quality of life through promoting clean mobility and sustainable urban transport.
Across Europe, towns and cities will give people the chance to explore the role of city streets and to experiment with practical solutions to tackle urban challenges, such as air pollution. The theme of this year’s campaign is ‘Safe Walking and Cycling’, explained in a short video from Violeta Bulc, Member of the European Commission in charge of Transport.
The week culminates in World Car Free day on Sunday 22 September. World Car Free day will be celebrated in a number of UK cities which are going car-free on Sunday, including Birmingham, Bath, Worcester and the London boroughs of Lambeth and Hackney. London has embraced its own Car Free Day which offers Reimagine – a whole range of events across 20km of traffic free roads.
BetterPoints has helped a number of cities in Europe and beyond in their journeys to becoming less car-centric. Take a look at our case studies of Bologna in Italy, the London Borough of Sutton and Joinville in Brazil.
